Short Version: We don't collect anything.

imxi is built differently. We believe your location data belongs to you. We don't have servers, we don't have databases, and we don't want your personal information. Everything stays on your device.

What Information We Collect

Absolutely nothing. Seriously. We have no servers, no databases, and no way to collect your information. Here's exactly what happens:

Stored Locally (On Your Device)

  • Memories (last 50 navigated places)
  • Saved spots and favorites
  • Language preferences
  • Friend connections (via QR codes)

All stored in your browser's local storage. You can clear it anytime.

NEVER Collected

  • Email addresses
  • Phone numbers
  • Real names
  • Location history
  • Tracking cookies
  • IP addresses
  • Device information

How We Use Your Information

We don't use your information because we don't have it. Here's how the app works without collecting anything:

  • WebRTC Peer-to-Peer: When you share location with friends, data goes directly between devices. Never passes through our servers (because we don't have any).
  • Local Storage: Your memories, saved spots, and preferences live only on your device. We can't see them, and neither can anyone else.
  • OpenStreetMap: We use free, open map data. Map tiles are fetched directly from OpenStreetMap servers, not through us.
  • QR Codes: Friend connections use QR codes containing only temporary connection data. No personal information is encoded.

Data Sharing

We share nothing because we have nothing to share.

Since we don't collect any data, there's nothing to sell, share, or give to third parties. The only data sharing that happens is:

  • Directly between you and your friends: When you choose to share your location, it goes directly to your friends' devices via WebRTC. We're not in the middle.
  • OpenStreetMap: When you view maps, your device requests tiles from OpenStreetMap servers. This is subject to their privacy policy, but no personal data is sent.

Even though we don't have your data, you still have rights:

Children's Privacy

imxi is suitable for all ages because we don't collect any information. There's no age restriction because there's no data to collect, no accounts to create, and no personal information to verify.

We comply with COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Protection Act) by simply not collecting any information from anyone, regardless of age.

Security

Your data's security is handled by:

  • Your Device: Data stored locally uses your browser's secure storage
  • WebRTC Encryption: All peer-to-peer connections are encrypted by default
  • HTTPS: The app is served over secure connections
  • No Central Point of Failure: With no servers, there's nothing to hack

Changes to This Policy

If we ever change our privacy policy (which would only happen if we somehow start collecting data - which we won't), we'll update this page with a new date. But honestly, we built imxi specifically to avoid needing to change this policy. Our commitment to privacy is permanent.

Frequently Asked Privacy Questions

Do you use cookies?

No tracking cookies. The only local storage is for your app preferences (language, saved spots) - and that's on your device, not in cookies.

Can you see my location?

No. Your location is only shared directly with friends you choose to share with. We have no servers to receive it.

What about analytics?

None. We don't track usage, page views, or anything else. We don't know how many people use imxi.

How do I delete my data?

Clear your browser's local storage, or just uninstall the app. That's it - it's gone forever.

Do you comply with GDPR?

Yes. By not collecting any data, we exceed GDPR requirements. There's nothing to request access to because there's no data.
